Families may still choose to hire a car rather than rely on public transport, especially taking into account day trips to the theme parks and attractions.
Air
Coolangatta Airport is serviced by the major domestic airlines as well as a number of regional airlines. International visitors fly into Brisbane and coach transfers to the Gold Coast connect with all flights. Qantas, Virgin Blue and Jetstar fly directly to Coolangatta and Brisbane.
Rail
A modern electric rail system joins the Gold Coast with Brisbane.
Coach
Greyhound Pioneer and McCafferty's Express Coaches service the region and accommodation options can be combined with this form of transport.
Self Drive

Within the region, Surfside bus lines offer a regular commuter service from Southport to Coolangatta and Regent Taxis are the main taxi operators. Water taxis are a great way to discover the canal systems, or hire boats offer an inexpensive means of spending time on the Nerang River or Southport Broadwater. Specialty car hire companies offer convertibles and sports cars, or scooters and mopeds are an alternative means of transport.
