Holiday Location - Coolangatta

Coolangatta is the gateway to the southern end of the Gold Coast and is located on the Queensland and New South Wales border, adjoining its twin town of Tweed Heads. With its unspoiled and uncrowded beaches, natural wildlife and great local atmosphere, Coolangatta is a world class tourist destination and fantastic family holiday location.

Coolangatta boasts some of coast's most beautiful beaches and excellent surfing, from the rugged headland and difficult break of Point Danger, to the gentler surf and wide sandy beaches of Snapper Rocks, Rainbow Bay and picturesque Greenmount Beach. Duranbah Beach and Kirra Point are also popular surfing spots and venues for the Billabong Pro. Around Coolangatta and its beaches there are also attractive parklands where the family can enjoy a barbecue or picnic.

There are several cafes close to the beach and a variety of boutique shops around Coolangatta, plus a cinema along Marine Parade. Beachfront art and craft markets are also held on the second Sunday of every month where you can find some great local bargains and gifts.

Coolangatta is also a lively nightlife centre, with Tweed's Twin Towns Services Club featuring great bands and gaming, the Coolangatta Hotel - THE live gig venue on the coast, plus a number of great restaurants, bars and clubs. Or enjoy great dining and even better views at any one of the five surf life saving clubs in the area: Greenmount Beach Club, Rainbow Bay SLSC, North Kirra SLSC, Coolangatta SLSC and Kirra SLSC.

Coolangatta is also home to the ever popular Wintersun Festival, Australia's leading rock and roll nostalgia retro event. Featuring two weeks of free entertainment and music from the 50's and 60's including rock'n'roll, hot rods, restored cars, dancing and revival bands, this event draws thousands of locals and visitors alike.

When it comes to accommodation there's no shortage of choice in Coolangatta, from campsites and hostels to hotels, and many resorts are situated along Marine Parade overlooking the ocean. And Coolangatta's location only five minutes drive from the nearby Gold Coast Airport makes it a popular choice for tourists.
